CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Otterbein University volleyball team split a pair of non-conference matches Saturday on the road, falling to Defiance before rebounding with a triumph over host Mount St. Joseph.
The Cardinals (11-6), dealing with a quick turnaround after Friday's thrilling five-set win at rival Capital, fell to Defiance by scores of 22-25, 16-25, 17-25 and then regrouped to beat the Lions by counts of 20-25, 25-11, 25-21, 25-20.
Defiance hit .224 as a team compared to just .070 for Otterbein in the opener, getting a match-high 15 kills from Meredith Shank. Cardinal sophomore
Alana King-Mendenhall hit .532 over the three sets with a clean sheet of seven kills, no errors and 12 attempts.
Otterbein regrouped nicely to finish the day, getting a career-high 19 kills from King-Mendenhall as she hit at another solid clip of .405, tallying just four errors over 37 total attacks. Junior
Megan Volosin matched a season-best nine kills, her third such match of the fall, while setter
Andrea Miller tied her career high with 47 helpers.

Ashlyn Leon (28) and sophomore hitter
Olivia Harris (17) both posted season-highs in digs and the Cards combined to hit .234 as a group. Both teams committed 11 service errors.
Otterbein will be back in action Tuesday evening, resuming Ohio Athletic Conference play against Ohio Northern inside the Rike Center. It will be the Cardinals' first home match in a month.
