Women's Hoops Downed 77-60 at Heidelberg

TIFFIN, Ohio – The Otterbein women's basketball team dropped a 77-60 contest at Heidelberg on Saturday afternoon in an Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) matchup inside Seiberling Gymnasium.

The Cardinals (2-3 overall) fall to 0-2 in league play and will welcome six days off from play before traveling to cross-town rival Capital next Saturday. Tip-off is slated for 3 p.m. in Bexley, Ohio.

Otterbein scored the first three points of the game and led 5-2 in the early going before the Berg quickly evened the score at five points apiece with 7:39 left in the period. The Cards regained the lead at 7-5 with 6:44 remaining, proving to be their final advantage of the game.

Heidelberg ended the first quarter on a 10-4 scoring run to take a six-point lead into the second frame, before increasing its lead to as many as eight points. Otterbein continued to battle and managed to trim the Berg's lead to just three points at the break after scoring the half's final five points.

Sophomore Dani Kissel led the Cards through one half with seven points, while juniors Abby Miduri and Kiersten Taylor checked in with five points apiece. Heidelberg made the most of its shots from the field at 46.2 percent, while Otterbein posted a 36.7 percent mark.

The Berg opened the second half by extending its lead to 11 points at 40-29, before rebuilding its lead to 12 points at the end of the quarter following a gritty scoring effort by the Cards. Otterbein never managed to cut its deficit any closer than nine points in the final period, trailing by as many as 17 points.

Kissel totaled 13 points on 5-of-12 shooting, including a 2-of-3 mark from three-point range, grabbing a game-high eight rebounds. Taylor also finished with 13 points, going 5-of-10 from the field while also corralling four rebounds.

Senior Taylor Pifher recorded nine points and three rebounds, while freshman Abbie Scholz added three points to accompany seven rebounds off the bench. The Berg held a distinct advantage in bench points, 31-8.
