Box Score WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Otterbein University women's basketball team picked up a 75-65 victory over John Carroll on Wednesday night inside the Rike Center.
Otterbein (10-10 overall) improves to 5-8 in Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play and will host Baldwin Wallace on Senior Day this Saturday at 3 p.m.
Both teams struggled from the field in the early going, combining for 13 missed shots over the first four minutes of action. JCU responded with an 11-2 scoring run, totaling a 5-of-6 mark from the foul line.
Senior forward
Amariah Huck notched her first basket on a layup at the
3:23 mark, before meeting the 1,000-point mark for her career on a free throw with 31 seconds remaining in the quarter. Otterbein managed to close the gap and end the quarter down 16-14.
"I was a little anxious before the game," Huck said. "But now that it's over, it's an amazing feeling and I couldn't have done it without my teammates, coaches and family."
JCU opened the second period with an 11-2 scoring run, before freshman guard
Ali Cartnal netted a three-pointer at the
4:24 mark to ignite a 13-5 run by the Cards to end the half. Junior guard
Feaira Crews led all scorers at the break with 10 points on 4-of-5 shooting, grabbing four rebounds.
Sophomore guard
Abby Miduri gave the Cards their first lead of the game at the 6:27 mark of the third period, putting Otterbein up 41-40. Otterbein outscored JCU 25-16 in the quarter, thanks in part to 11 points from Miduri.
The Blue Streaks came no closer than two points in the final period, as the Cardinals extended their lead to as many as 12 over the final 10 minutes.
Miduri led Otterbein with 19 points on 8-of-17 shooting, grabbing three rebounds and assisting twice. Crews followed off the bench with a career-high 15 points on a stellar 6-of-7 shooting performance, corralling a team-high eight rebounds.
Cartnal added 13 points and tied for a game-high six assists. Huck posted her 10th-straight game scoring in double digits, totaling 12 points and six rebounds. Otterbein enjoyed a 16-2 advantage in fast break points.
