CEDARVILLE, Ohio – The Otterbein University women's cross country team repeated as Division III All-Ohio champions Friday afternoon, outlasting second-place Oberlin College to finish atop the field of 17 schools. Cedarville University once again served as the host.
The Cardinals, sitting sixth in the most recent regional rankings, crossed four runners in the top 15, held off Oberlin by 15 points and ultimately came in eighth out of 43 teams across all divisions. Otterbein claimed its first-ever All-Ohio crown last year.
Sophomore
Claire Lamb repeated as the Division III individual champion, covering the 6K course in 21:43.4 to best the entire D3 field. She held off Ohio Wesleyan's Sarah Fowler by almost six seconds as the duo finished a minute ahead of everyone else. Lamb also come in third overall, finishing only behind runners from Miami (Ohio) and Dayton.
"I felt pretty strong and had confidence going into the race," Lamb said afterwards. "It was nice to bouce back individually after a tough race during the recent home meet. I am also so proud of the team for going out together, staying in a strong pack and defending our team title."
Classmates
Heather Sandvik (23:00.6) and
Katy Foltz (23:06.9) also turned in top-10 performances, with Sandvik earning fifth and Foltz sixth amongst Division III. The duo was also within the top-50 finishers in all divisions.
Senior
Alex Winter recorded a 14th-place result in a time of 23:17.7 while sophomore
Kira Judd rounded out the Cardinal five in 25th after completing the distance in 23:44.
Senior
Cassady Shultz (24:17.6) and freshman
Allison Rogiers (24:39.2) also had solid days, easily breaking the 25-minute mark to come in 38th and 54th, respectively.
Otterbein will be back in action the weekend of October 15,
, traveling to compete at the Inter-Regional Border Battle, hosted by Rowan University, in Glassboro, N.J.
