WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Otterbein wrestling team absorbed anOhio Athletic Conference (OAC) loss Tuesday evening in the Rike Center, finishing on the low end of a 37-6 dual match with No. 9-ranked Baldwin Wallace University.
The Cardinals, facing their third nationally-ranked team in the last eight days, will now regroup and get back to action this coming weekend at the Wheaton Invitational in Illinois. Baldwin Wallace, the defending OAC champion and 2017 preseason favorite, improves to 18-3 on the season and 2-0 against the league.
Otterbein (12-4, 1-2 OAC) got on the board first thanks to a 12-7 decision from reigning OAC 'Wrestler of the Week'
Jackson Lakso, who improved to a 14-2Â record on the year at 125 pounds.
BW tallied a close 12-8 decision in the 133-pound contest over Otterbein's
Tyler Norris and then followed by winning six-straight bouts to clinch the match from a team standpoint.
Cardinal freshman
Willy Plaisir (157 lbs.) was forced to swallow a tough 7-6 decision following a late reversal from BW's Benjamin Hoof. Plaisir tied the match at 6-6 in the closing seconds with an escape, but Hoof benefited from a bonus point for riding time to earn the win.
Otterbein standout
Drew Kasper continued his solid results with another victory at 197 pounds, this time coming up with a late takedown over Tyler Maclellan to slip away with a 3-1 triumph and move to 16-2 overall. Maclellan was a national qualifier last season after finishing second at the Mideast Regional.
The Cardinals will get back into OAC competition following the outing at Wheaton, hosting Ohio Northern University next Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
