Dolan, Cormell advance to Saturday at NCAA Regionals

ADA, Ohio – After day one of the NCAA Division III Wrestling Regional, the Otterbein University men's wrestling team has two wrestlers still competing for a trip to Nationals. Luke Dolan, competing at 157, and Logan Cormell in the 174-pound bracket will wrestle on Saturday, each needing to win three consecutive bouts. As a team, the Cardinals sit in 13th place (29 points).

Dolan picked up a 19-3 tech fall victory to open the day over Kyler North (Southern Virginia). The sophomore won his next bout via bonus points as well with a pin in 2:21 over Heidelberg's Aaron Cole. Falling in the final period in the next bout, he moved to the consolation bracket where he kept his season alive with a tech fall over Hunter Ballantine of Shenandoah (18-2, 4:44). 

Cormell pinned Saint Vincent's Chase Brandebura in 4:09 to start the tournament, but fell in a tough 4-2 matchup to W&L's Jacob Wright. In the wrestlebacks, the senior defeated Muskingum's Breyden Hill by a 12-4 major decision to advance to Saturday. 

At 133, Gabe Thacker finished the season with a 1-2 record on Friday. Dropping his opening bout to the top seed in the bracket, the junior answered with a 17-6 major decision over Thiel's Deshonn Valentine. Thacker's season came to a close falling in his next bout.

Trent VandenEynden started the day by pinning Josue DelCid (Greensboro) in 4:56. Falling in his next bout, VandenEynden dropped to the consolation bracket where he ended his season with a 1-2 Friday record. 

At 165, Carter Mottley went 1-2, starting the tournament off with an 8-4 decision over Averett's Cooper Comer. Mottley fell to the top seed in his next bout and lost his next match in the consolation bracket. 

Karson Nail finished 1-2 at 197, answering after an opening round loss with a first period pin over Anthony Gencarelli (Muskingum, 1:53). He lost in his next matchup in the consolation bracket. 

Marcy Olivo (125), Andrew Sas (141), Caiden Hooks (184) and Matthew Bachie (285) all went 0-2 on Friday.

Dolan and Cormell will compete Saturday in Ada with matches commencing at 10 a.m.
