WXC Powers to Win at Inter-Regional Border Battle

Final Results

MULLICA HILLS, N.J. – The Otterbein women's cross country team powered to victory at the Inter-Regional Border Battle on Saturday morning, hosted by Rowan University at its Technology Park.

The Cardinal women's team, ranked third in the latest regional poll and 24th nationally, cruised past the 26-team field with a final tally of 98 points, besting second-place Johns Hopkins by 10 points. Otterbein also enjoyed an upset of third-place Dickinson, which is currently ranked eighth in the country.

Otterbein earned the win thanks to its top-five finishers placing inside the top-35 runners in a highly-competitive field which saw 239 runners cross the finish line.

The win is the second in-a-row for the Cards after coming off their third-consecutive Division III All-Ohio championship  after winning the event just two weeks ago.

A total of eight Cardinal runners checked in with personal-best times for this season in the 6K race, including juniors Claire Lamb, Heather Sandvik and Katy Foltz, sophomores Allison Currey and Allison Rogiers, as well as freshmen Lorenza Savini, Sydney Smith and Mia Brady.

Lamb, fresh off her third-straight individual title in Division III at the All-Ohio Championships earlier this month, paced the Cardinals and crossed the line in third-place with a time of 21:20.9. Lamb's one-mile average was clocked at 5:43.4.

Sandvik was close behind in sixth-place after covering the distance in 21:35.2, while Savini claimed the final spot in the top-20 with a mark of 22:32.5. Sandvik's average mile-time was 5:47.2.

Smith (22:58.3) and Rogiers (22:59.3) rounded out the top-five finishers for the Cardinals, placing back-to-back for the final two spots inside the top-35.

Sophomore Allison Currey also placed inside the top-50 runners, grabbing 47th-place after finishing the event in 23:09.5. Junior Katy Foltz finished five spots behind with a time of 23:18.5.

The Cards will welcome next week off from competition before they look to claim their fourth-straight Ohio Athletic Conference Championship on Oct. 28. The event will be hosted by Heidelberg at the Clinton Heights Golf Course.
