MATCH RESULTS
ALLIANCE, Ohio – The Otterbein wrestling team concluded its regular-season schedule with a hard-fought loss Saturday evening, dropping a 26-15 dual match at the University of Mount Union.
The Cardinals, finishing with a 13-7 record, will now regroup and head to the NCAA Midwest Regional at Manchester next weekend. The top-three placers will advance to the NCAA Championships.
Otterbein trailed Mount Union just 10-9 after four matches, getting a first-round pin from 133-pounder
Tyler Norris just 1:46 into his match and then a narrow 7-6 decision win from
Jake Vaughan, at 149 lbs.
The Purple Raiders (8-11, 3-3 OAC) took control from that point, getting a pin during the 157-pound matchup and then winning the next three to open a 26-9 advantage and clinch the match.
Otterbein claimed victory in the final two weight classes, watching standout freshman
Drew Kasper finish off a perfect 5-0 conference record at 197 pounds with a 7-3 decision, bumping his overall mark to 25-4 this winter.
Freshman
Gage Archer followed with an 11-7 triumph at heavyweight, improving to an admirable 15-5 on the season.
Baldwin Wallace, ranked ninth in the nation, earned its second-straight OAC Championships this week with a 6-0 output against the rest of the league. The Yellow Jackets finished the regular season 22-3 in duals.
