SUNBURY, Ohio - The Otterbein men's and women's golf teams each claimed victory in their respective events today as host of the Cardinal Classic on a sunny day at NorthStar Golf Club, rounding out the regular-season portion of their schedules.

The Cardinal men's squad topped the field of four teams with a team score of 301 to outlast second-place Capital by four strokes, while the women's team cruised to a 15-stroke victory over second-place Mount Union after totaling a 325. The win on the men's side was their second in-a-row and third of the season, while the women's squad captured its second event of the year.

Junior Austin Wells finished in first-place among 34 competitors on the men's side, tying season-low round with a par-72 to slip past Capital's Noah Iovino, who finished one stroke behind in second-place. Freshman Spencer Jordan followed for the Cards in a tie for third-place with a 74, while classmate Kurt Fortman and senior Andrew Kotey, who both competed as individuals, placed in a tie for eighth with a score of 76.

Fellow freshman Sam Marty tallied a 77 for a share of 13th-place overall, while senior Kris Clarke and sophomore Ryan Karapas tied for 15th-place with a 78. Junior Tyler Elgin finished close behind in a tie for 18th-place with a 79 to round out the team score, while freshman Tyler Dunfee placed tied for 20th with an 80.

On the women's side the Cardinals were led by sophomore Abby Grospitch, the reigning OAC 'Golfer of the Week', who paced the field of 21 golfers with her second-lowest round of the season of 77. Grospitch topped teammate Maddie Durbin, who placed second with her lowest round of the year, by three strokes as all five Cardinal competitors finished inside the top-10.

Senior Ann Jobko followed in a tie for sixth-place alongside sophomore Ashley Hayes with an 84, while fellow senior Liz Haack rounded out the team score with an 85 to place in sole possession of eighth-place overall. Otterbein has now placed in the top-three in seven of its 10 events this season to power past last year's mark of two.

Both teams are now set for the OAC Championships beginning with the three-day women's tournament starting next Friday, while the men's event kicks off the following week on Apr. 28-30. The Cardinal men's team has won the event each of the last two years, last spring leading to a seventh-place finish at the NCAA D3 Championships, while the women's squad is in search of its second win in the last three outings.
