CEDARVILLE, Ohio – The Otterbein University women's cross country team wrapped up its third-straight Division III All-Ohio championship Friday afternoon, besting second-place Kenyon by 21 points to finish atop the 18-team field at Cedarville University.
The Cardinals, ranked fifth regionally and tied for 33rd in the latest national poll, posted their best outing of the season after placing second and third, respectively, through their first two 6K meets.
Otterbein's team score was also good enough to earn a 10th-place finish out of 40 total teams which competed across Division I, II and III.
The Cardinals crossed five runners inside the top-20 and captured the top-two spots across the finish line led by juniors
Claire Lamb and
Heather Sandvik, as both clocked in with an under six-minute mile pace.
Lamb, who claimed her third-consecutive Division III individual title after running a season-best 21:57.7, topped the field of 139 runners in the D3 field. Lamb's time was also good for 11th of 343 runners across Divisions I, II and III.
Sandvik followed with yet another strong outing after cruising through the course with a time of 22:15.8, also good for a spot inside the overall top-25, while freshman
Lorenza Savini claimed 13th-place after covering the distance in 23:10.1.
A trio of season-best times were also accounted for as sophomore
Allison Currey (23:21.4) and freshman
Sydney Smith (23:23.0) finished back-to-back in 16th and 17th-place, respectively, while junior
Katy Foltz (23:39.9) finished 27th overall.
All six runners listed above received All-Ohio recognition as a result of placing inside the top-35 amongst Division III, with Lamb securing her third such award, while Sandvik and Foltz earned their second.
