TIFFIN, Ohio – The Otterbein women's basketball squad picked up its fourth-straight win on Saturday afternoon, sweeping the regular-season series with Heidelberg following a 66-50 victory on the road inside Seiberling Gymnasium.
Otterbein (11-8 overall) improve to 7-5 in Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play and finds itself tied for fourth-place in the league standings with Mount Union, which defeated the Cards in the first meeting. The Cards will look to add to their winning streak Wednesday night with a trip to John Carroll at 7:30 p.m.
The story of the game for Otterbein's offense was the stellar play of sophomore
Delaney Cutteridge, who finished with a career-best 18 points to lead all scorers, on 8-of-12 shooting, after checking in at halftime with seven points to pace the team.
Otterbein jumped out to a 19-6 advantage through the first eight minutes of the initial quarter, as five different players accounted for a point over that span.
A seven point lead to start the second period quickly turned into a 23-13 advantage following four-straight points from junior
Alex Schaffer, before Heidelberg cut its deficit to six points just four minutes later.
The Cards then took a 27-21 lead and turned it into a nine-point margin with just over a minute before halftime before a late basket in the paint from the Berg made the score 31-24 at the break.
Junior
Ali Cartnal and senior
Kiersten Taylor connected on back-to-back shots to begin the second half for the Cards, pushing the lead back to double digits at 35-24 less than a minute in. Otterbein managed to manufacture a 15-4 scoring run over the first four minutes and change of the third period to claim its largest lead of the game at 46-28.
The Cards' lead was never in jeopardy from the point forward as the Student Princes came no closer than 11 points in the final frame, as the team captured its fifth win in the last six tries.
In addition to Cutteridge's scoring effort, Taylor concluded the afternoon with 12 points and four rebounds while Cartnal followed with nine points, seven assists and six boards. Junior
Dani Kissel chipped in eight points of her own to pair with three assists.
Otterbein shot 45 percent for the contest while holding Heidelberg to just 33 percent shooting, also enjoying a 26-11 advantage in points off turnovers.
