Cardinals Secure Fifth-Straight Win With Defeat of JCU

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio – The Otterbein women's basketball squad notched its fifth-straight victory on Wednesday night following a 83-65 win at John Carroll inside the DeCarlo Varsity Center.

Junior Dani Kissel got off to a solid start for the Cardinals with seven points on 3-of-4 shooting to help give the team an 18-13 advantage through one quarter of action after opening the game on an 11-2 scoring run.

Senior Abby Miduri knocked down a three-pointer on the opening possession of the second quarter to up the Cards' lead to 21-13 before the team took its first double-digit lead of the night on another basket by Miduri two minutes later.

The Cardinals ended the half on a 24-14 run to head into halftime up 47-27, with Kissel accounting for six of their final 11 points in the frame. Kissel and senior Kiersten Taylor combined for 20 points in the opening half.

Otterbein only added to its lead for the remainder of the game, inflating the margin to as many as 24 points in the third period for its largest lead of the contest. JCU respectively trimmed its deficit to 70-58 after beginning the final frame on an 11-3 run, which prompted a timeout by the Cards.

Taylor then scored four of the Cards' next eight points as part of an 8-2 run which bumped the lead back to a more comfortable margin at 78-60 with just over two minutes remaining. The Blue Streaks were held to five points the rest of the night as Otterbein capped off its sixth win in the last seven outings.

Leading the way for the Cardinals was Taylor with a game-high 21 points on a solid 9-of-11 mark from the field to go with a pair of rebounds. Kissel followed with 14 points and three boards, while sophomore Delaney Cutteridge checked in with a double-figure scoring effort for the second-straight game, posting 11 points.

Senior Abby Miduri scored nine while sophomore Abbie Scholz had a wildly productive 8-8-8 stat line regarding points, rebounds and assists. Otterbein shot 58 percent as a unit including six three-pointers and and 81 percent mark from the foul line.

The Tan and Cardinal return home this Saturday for a matchup with Baldwin Wallace tipping off inside the Rike Center at 3 p.m.
