WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Otterbein women's golf team finished its fall season this past weekend at the Pat Clouse Invitational hosted by Wittenberg. The Cardinals competed in three prior tournaments, preparing for the spring season.
"Our team played a good mix of tournaments with some tough courses," said head coach
Brian Booher. "We showed a lot of depth within the squad, our low score can come from anywhere in our lineup."
Otterbein kicked off its season in early September taking part in the Lynn Schweizer Invitational at the Denison Golf Club and finished sixth out of 11 total squads. Freshman
Lyndsay Blum paced the Cardinals shooting a 153 over the two rounds, including a fourth-place finish out of 69 competitors.
The next event would take place at the Cumberland Trail Golf Club, as Otterbein finished 12th of 16 teams. Blum would once again take the top spot for the Cards, by shooting rounds of 84 and a low-round of 76 on day two.
Abby Grospitch put together her best round with a socre of 80 and a total score of 170.
Otterbein claimed its first victory at the OAC Fall Preview at the River Greens Golf Course. The Cards finished 51 strokes ahead of second place Mount Union and 65 strokes of third place Baldwin Wallace.
Maddie Durbin claimed medalist honors with a total score of 172.
Abby Chilcoat placed second overall, one stroke back of her teammate, with rounds of 88 and 85. Grospitch and Blum would finish inside the top five of a field compiled of 45 golfers.
Meg Thomas rounded the Cardinal five, placing ninth overall shooting 181 over the two rounds.
"The highlight of the fall was certainly at the OAC Fall Preview." said Booher " It is always great to get a rep on the championship site and it was a bonus to win."
The last tournament Otterbein competed in was the Pat Clouse Invitational hosted by Wittenberg, where the Cardinals placed fourth out of six schools. Grospitch paced Otterbein shooting 168 for the two rounds and placed 16th overall. Blum finished one stroke back of Grospitch and claimed 17th place.
"Winning at the OAC's certainly got the team excited about the potential for the spring and was all the encouragement we needed to work hard over the offseason."
