NEW CONCORD, Ohio – The Cardinal women's basketball team made it eight-straight victories on Saturday afternoon after cruising past Muskingum 67-55 on the road inside the Steele Center.
Otterbein (15-8 overall) improves its mark in Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play to 11-5 and will look to continue its winning ways in its final road regular-season game on Wednesday night at nationally-ranked Ohio Northern. Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m. in Ada, Ohio.
The Cardinals got off to a fast start from the field with a 16-5 lead over the Muskies just six minutes into the first quarter, before settling on a 20-11 lead heading into the second frame.
Junior
Dani Kissel accounted for five of the team's points in the frame, while senior
Kiersten Taylor, the reigning OAC 'Player of the Week,' added four points of her own.
Muskingum (6-17, 2-14 OAC) cut its deficit to seven points by making the opening basket before a layup by Taylor on the next possession sparked an 11-1 scoring run for the Cards.
Otterbein's 31-14 advantage around the five-minute mark proved to be its largest of the half, before sophomore
Delaney Cutteridge converted a buzzer-beating jump shot heading into the break to keep the difference suitable at 37-22.
The Cards entered halftime shooting an even 40 percent from the field, with 17 combined points from Kissel and Taylor to lead the way.
Otterbein maintained its scoring output in the second half, building a 22-point lead around the mid-way point of the fourth quarter which proved to be its largest of the contest. The Cards never trailed in the game and capitalized off of a 17-7 margin in bench points.
Taylor finished with a game-high 18 points on an efficient of 8-of-14 shooting performance, grabbing six rebounds in the process. Kissel followed with 14 points and five boards, while junior
Ali Cartnal added 12 points.
Sophomore
Abbie Scholz corralled a game-best 13 rebounds to pair with six points, making it five games with a double-digit rebounding efforts over the current winning streak.
Freshman
Bryn Mangold also checked in with a solid game off the bench, scoring four points to go with six rebounds, while Cutteridge filled the stat sheet with five points, four boards, three assists and as many steals.
