FINAL RESULTS
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Otterbein women's cross country team capped its season at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Saturday afternoon amidst a cold scene in Michigan, finishing 8th of 37 competing schools at the meet hosted by Calvin College.
The Cardinals, scoring 220 points, finished just one point shy of Ohio Northern in seventh place as the top of the leaderboard was loaded with Ohio Athletic Conference schools. John Carroll edged out Baldwin Wallace by a single point to claim the team title.
A pair of Otterbein runners claimed all-region honors on the almost 6K course, as the track was shorted roughly 400 meters due to conditions. A total of 233 competitors laced up.
Senior
Allison Currey spearheaded Otterbein's charge with a 15th-place finish, covering the course in 21:52 to secure her first all-region honor. She improved every year at the regionals with places of 68-56-42-15.
Junior
Sydney Smith also racked up all-region status after taking 62nd place a year ago, this time crossing the line in 21st with an effort of 22:05. Classmate
Lorenza Savini (22:51) was third for the Cards at 53rd overall.
Mackenzie Davis, competing in her first regional, took 63rd in a time of 23:00 flat while
Halle Bentley (23:03) was right on her heels and crossed five spots behind. Senior
Allison Rogiers took 79th and
Danielle Ferrero rounded out the Otterbein squad in 87th, still in the upper 40 percent of the field.
The Cardinals will now wait until Sunday afternoon to learn if any runners may earn an individual spot at the NCAA Championships.
