SALEM, Va. – The Cardinal wrestling team wrapped up another positive trip down south in Virginia over the weekend, going 2-2 in dual matches but then capping the weekend with a repeat victory in the Star City Classic on Sunday afternoon.
Otterbein opened at the Southeast Duals with four head-to-head showdowns on Saturday in Roanoke, beginning with a tough 25-13 defeat to Washington and Lee. The Cards then responded with victories over Liberty (31-13) and Southern Virginia (48-0) before a 24-13 loss to host Ferrum.
Seniors
Corbin Bunsold (184) and
Drew Kasper (285) both went a perfect 4-0 on the day. Bunsold had a first-round pin and major decision included in his effort, while Kasper knocked off his second top-10 opponent this season with a 16-6 major over Nico Ramirez from Southern Virginia.
Kasper, ranked as the top heavyweight in the nation, took Sunday off following his victory over the No. 9 ranked Ramirez. He is 9-0 so far this season.
Otterbein then
defended its title at the Star City Classic, winning six weight classes and ultimately compiling 160.5 points to comfortably finish atop the standings of 13 schools. Ferrum took runner-up status with 126 points collectively.
