ORLANDO, Fla. – The Otterbein women's golf team started the spring season with an impressive victory against Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) opponent Ohio Northern, as it was the first time the team had played since October 14.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The setup of the match consisted of a morning session with a team play aspect, with the exception of
Maddie Durbin who played as an individual due to the number of golfers. In the afternoon, each golfer went heads up with a member of Ohio Northern with the winning score receiving a full point or if they tied each player received half a point.
Otterbein was victorious in morning session, as Durbin won her individual match, as
Abby Grospitch and
Ashley Hayes teamed up for a victory.
Meg Thomas and
Abby Chilcoat earned the third and final point of the morning for Otterbein.
The Cardinals came away with a 5 1/2 – 1 1/2 victory in the afternoon as Hayes and Thomas earned their second point of the day, while Chilcoat scored half a point by tying.
Lyndsay Blum shined in the afternoon session by defeating the Polar Bear's number one golfer and earned a full point for the Cardinals. Freshman
Viv George responded in the second match by earning another point for Otterbein and showing off the depth of the team.
WHAT THEY SAID:
"We were excited to get on the grass and embrace the elements of competition once again," said head coach
Brian Booher.
"It was great to see both Lyndsay and Viv play well as it is always a great experience when we can have our freshman play against top-notch opponents and come away with a victory." Booher said.
UP NEXT:
The Cardinals will be off until March 23-24 when the team takes on conference opponent Marietta at Lakeside Golf Course.
