UHRICHSVILLE, Ohio – The Otterbein wrestling team returned from a month-long holiday break and began the second half of its season in nice fashion Sunday afternoon, comfortably sweeping through six head-to-head showdowns at the Golden Eagle Duals hosted by Kent State Tuscarawas.
The Cardinals, improving to 12-2 on the season collectively, opened with a 35-14 victory over Rochester College in the second matchup this season between the schools. Otterbein then got to the midway point with wins against Wilmington (57-0) and Henry Ford Community College (48-12).
Otterbein, taking the opportunity to work in a variety of wrestlers throughout the day, then finished with lopsided wins against KSU Tuscarawas (60-0), Meryhurst North East (38-14) and Ancilla (50-6).
Senior
Corbin Bunsold went a perfect 6-0 on the day, tallying four pins and improving his record to 21-2 on the season. The freshman trio of
Joey Buckland (133),
Jacob Williams (149) and
Ryan Whitten (157) also went unblemished competing in all six outings.
Seniors
Willy Plaisir (165) and
Luke Hess (197) both delivered 5-1 records while classmates
Drew Kasper and
Chris Martinez split the heavyweight duties, both going 3-0. Kasper now stands 16-0.
Joey Bradberry and
Sam Shalvey combined to go 5-0 in the middle weight classes to help complement the well-rounded Cardinal lineup. Otterbein will be back in action on Wednesday with a dual at Case Western Reserve up in Cleveland at 6 p.m.
