WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Otterbein women's golf team wrapped up October play at the Wittenberg Fall Classic recently, finishing with a runner-up effort in the competitive event at Springfield Country Club.
The Cardinals only finished behind DePauw in the condensed field, taking on a
challenging par-73 course that featured firm and fast greens.
Lyndsay Blum (84-85) and
Emma McGreal (89-80) led Otterbein with top-five finishes, as no player in the field of 33 individuals broke 80.
Viv George also secured a top-10 result.
Wittenberg's Ellen Frame won the event with back-to-back scores of 81, edging Ohio Northern standout Grace Honigford by one stroke.
The Cardinals posted two runner-ups and a notable victory throughout the month of October, topping defending Ohio Athletic Conference champion Ohio Northern by 14 shots at the
OAC Fall Preview. Rachel Hatley earned medalist honors at River Greens as four Otterbein players settled in the top 10.
"The OAC Preview was the highlight for sure," Booher said. "It showed what they are capable of doing a as a team when everyone plays to their ability. But the entire fall was a good mixture of results to keep us motivated throughout the winter. I think we have confidence but remain motivated at the same time."
Just after that, the Cardinals took second behind ONU at the
Capital Fall Classic… hosted at Blacklick Woods in nearby Reynoldsburg. The two schools will certainly be in one another's way as the chase for the 2022 OAC title arrives once the calendar flips.
Despite the budding rivalry, Otterbein will remain focused on self-improvement and hopefully build expectations with each passing round.
"For us, the fall and spring are both in the same," Booher explained. "There is just a break in the action when you get to winter. We prepare the same… with the only difference being that the OAC Championships and NCAA's are hosted in the spring. Our approach will be one day at a time, and the chips will fall how they may."
Otterbein will look to remain sharp over the winter months before launching its "traditional" season come March. The schedule is still being finalized and will be posted accordingly.
