McNutt Named OAC Defensive Player of the Week

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio – For the first time in her young career, Otterbein sophomore goalie Leah McNutt has been voted the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) "Defensive Player of the Week" in women's lacrosse.

McNutt (Wadsworth/Wadsworth) had a pair of double-digit save efforts for the Cardinals, who settled for a 1-1 record on the week after a narrow loss to conclude the stretch. The team is now 2-1 overall this season.

The week began with McNutt making 10 stops in a home victory over Ohio Northern, setting up a big showdown with cross-town rival Capital at Memorial Stadium.

Otterbein unfortunately endured a 14-13 defeat, but McNutt kept her squad in the game the entire way by setting a new program single-game record with 19 saves. Three of those came during a critical 15-second sequence in the second half.

She faced a whopping 69 shots on goal across the two games, posting a .435 save percentage while also securing two ground balls and causing a turnover.

McNutt and the Cardinals will have the middle of this week off to regroup before heading out for their first road game of the year, traveling to John Carroll come Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m.
