WILMINGTON, Ohio – The No. 12-ranked Otterbein volleyball team kept cruising Wednesday night on the road, sweeping the host Quakers and running its winning streak to six matches.
Both victories, moving Otterbein to 13-1 overall, set up a massive nationally-ranked showdown with Muskingum (11-1) this coming Friday in Westerville. The Muskies are positioned No. 15 in the latest
AVCA national poll.
Before that, the Cardinals needed to take care of business in their final road affair(s) of the regular season… as these contests were slightly postponed from Tuesday's original date.
MATCH 1: (W 25-14, 25-17, 25-18)
A 12-4 run in the first set propelled Otterbein into an early lead, and the second frame saw a 10-10 tie before the Cardinals pulled away. The third set was 15-12 before the Cards kicked into gear again, winning five-straight points and never looking back.
A balanced rotation was implemented on the Cardinal side, with
Amber Greeley (10-3-19) and Julian Vermilion (9-2-19) both hitting .368 offensively.
Morgan Hartman led all players with 15 kills.
Libero
Hillary Sterett had 14 digs from the back row, as Otterbein held Wilmington to just a .021 percentage.
MATCH 2: (W 25-6, 25-12, W 25-16)
A 14-1 spurt in the opener was the difference in the most lopsided game of the night. The Quakers only trailed 10-7 in the next set before Otterbein captured 10 of the next 12 points.
Wilmington gave its best push off the night in the third as the Cardinals worked in a new lineup, locked at 12-12 midway through until Otterbein regrouped to finish off the sweep.
The Cards hit .375 in the match, including .636 in the middle set, behind nine kills from both Greeley and sophomore classmate
Tasia Lauth. Freshman setter
Kailey Mishler had 15 assists while playing the last two frames and libero
Bridget Oder recorded 14 digs.
PREPPING FOR FRIDAY:
Otterbein and Muskingum split a pair of matchups last season, both happening in New Concord. The Muskies prevailed 3-1 during the regular season before Otterbein exacted revenge with a 3-0 triumph in the OAC Tournament semifinals.
