WESTERVILLE, Ohio – Otterbein University heavyweight
Zac Stray (Lexington, Ky./Lafayette) has been voted the latest Wrestler of the Week in the Ohio Athletic Conference, announced Monday afternoon by the league office.
Stray, a junior competing at 285 pounds, delivered a memorable victory that punctuated a recent OAC dual with Mount Union during a raucous comeback in the Rike Center last Tuesday.
The Cardinals, hosting the Raiders in one of just two home duals this entire season, trailed 15-3 early in the night before striking a late rally by claiming five of the last six bouts.
Down 18-16 with just the heavyweight match left, Stray took the mat needing an individual victory for an overall team triumph. He did just that by taking control early, securing multiple takedowns and ultimately walking out with a dominant 13-0 major decision.
The effort helped secure Otterbein's first-ever victory against Mount Union since originally resurrecting the program back in 2016.
Stray (3-2) and the Cardinals will have the Thanksgiving holiday off from varsity competition before getting back on the mat come December 2 at the Ohio Northern Invitational.
