Shore, Kennedy's top-5 finishes lead Women's Wrestling to 22nd-place finish at Indiana Tech Warrior Open

FORT WAYNE, Ind. — The Otterbein women's wrestling team placed 22nd, with senior Olivia Shore and freshman Kellie Kennedy finishing in the top five in their weight class brackets, at the Indiana Tech Warrior Open on Saturday.

Otterbein scored 39.5 points and placed 22nd of 45 teams. Life University won the event with 247 points. Baker University was second with 212 points, and William Penn University was third with 208.5 points.

Otterbein Individual Results by Weight Class:

Maximus 103: Shore secured a 2nd place finish, earning 21.0 team points for Otterbein. She dominated her early matches, winning by fall in under two minutes each time—defeating Diandra Tejada (Brewton Parker) in just 59 seconds, Isabella Bocanegra (Providence) in 1:10, and Erin Hikiji (Providence) in 1:43 during the semifinals. In the 1st place match, Shore fell short against Jaclyn Bouzakis (Unattached), losing by decision 12-4.
Pancake 103: Kennedy secured a 5th place finish, earning 13.5 team points for the Cardinals. After receiving a bye in the first round, she advanced with a win by fall over Ayla Lipscomb (Grand Valley State WC) in 2:24. In the quarterfinals, she was defeated by Alyssa Archer (Lindsey Wilson) by fall in 1:21. Kennedy rebounded in the consolation round with a win by fall over Lillian Hackworth (Missouri Baptist) in 5:08. She capped off her performance with a 10-3 decision victory over Madi Mikels (Unattached) in the 5th place match.
Pancake 110: Freshman Rylee Touhalisky earned 2.0 team points. After receiving a bye in the first round, she was defeated by Mackenzie Burger (Alma) via tech fall, 11-0, in the second round. In the consolation bracket, Touhalisky bounced back with a tech fall victory over Sophia Castillo (Baker), 10-0. However, her run ended in the third consolation round, where Haley Williams (Rio Grande) defeated her by decision, 8-4.
Maximus 124: Freshman Raegan Briggs contributed 3.0 team points for Otterbein. In the first round, she lost to Ariana Martinez (Life) by fall in 1:39. After receiving a bye in the first consolation round, Briggs bounced back with a dominant win over Chloe Herrick (Missouri Baptist) by fall in just 23 seconds. Her run ended in the third consolation round, where Peyton Hand (Ottawa) defeated her by fall in 2:54.
Pancake 131: Freshman Izzy Samczuk faced tough competition in the preliminaries, falling to Lexi Beadle (Baldwin Wallace) by tech fall, 11-0. In her following match, Ilani Jones-Wallace (Mount Union) defeated Samczuk by fall in 5:47.
Pancake 131: Freshman Madison Sheehan faced early setbacks in the preliminaries, losing to Elizabeth Riggs (Missouri Valley) by fall in just 25 seconds. In her next match, Kendya Pierre-Louis (Indiana Tech) also defeated Sheehan by fall, this time in 48 seconds.
Maximus 207: Sophomore Marvet Hejazin was defeated by Brianna Staebler (Campbellsville) by fall in 1:07 in the opening round. In the first consolation round, Hejazin fell to Phoebe Burt (William Penn) by decision, with a score of 9-0.

Senior Olivia Shore is No. 1 nationally in the 103-pound weight class in the latest rankings from The Open Mat, which were released on Tuesday. She is now 11-1 on the season with seven falls and one tech fall.
In the latest National Wrestling Coaches Association regional rankings, which were released Dec. 20, Shore is No. 1 at 103 pounds in Region 4. Also in Region 4, Rylee Touhalisky is No. 4 at 110 pounds, Hailey Hatfield is No. 4 at 117 pounds, Emmy Caton is No. 4 at 124 pounds and Grace Murphy is No. 5 at 207 pounds.
