Dolan wins 157 title in season opener

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – On Sunday, the Otterbein University men's wrestling kicked off its season at the Lycoming Invitational. Sophomore Luke Dolan was the champion at 157 in the freshman-sophomore bracket, turning in a perfect 3-0 record.

Freshman Marcy Olivo went 2-2 in his collegiate debut, highlighted by a 13-5 major decision over Emmanuel's Christopher Seccareccio. Also competing in the 125 freshman-sophomore bracket was Dannis Cepeda, who was 0-2 

In the junior-senior bracket, Gabe Thacker placed fourth at 133. He opened the day with a 19-3 tech fall, before falling in his next two bouts. Freshman Ryan Hydorn turned in a 2-2 record at 133 in the freshman-sophomore bracket. Both of his wins came via the fall in times of 1:16 and 5:24. He took sixth in his bracket. At 141, freshman Bo Sweetman was 0-2. 

Reid Todhunter was 1-2 in the 149 freshman-sophomore division. His win was a 19-8 major decision over Scranton's Nicholas Gillmor. Zach Orseno was the runner-up in the junior-senior bracket, going 2-1 on the day. The junior grinded out wins of 8-6 and 11-9 before falling in the title bout.

In the 157 freshman-sophomore bracket, Otterbein saw Radley Spencer and Luke Dolan compete. Dolan was the champion, tech falling his first opponent in 4:52 (18-2). He went on to win a 10-1 major decision, before a 10-5 victory in the championship bout. Spencer was 0-2 for the Cardinals. Jason Patterson competed in the junior-senior division, turning in an 0-2 day.

Both Sam Wegesin and Carter Mottley represented the Cardinals in the junior-senior 165 bracket. Mottley needed just 22 seconds to pin his first opponent before a loss in the next round. He went on to pick up two more pins (2:24, 1:06) to advance to the fifth place match. He went on to claim fifth by pinning his opponent in 1:37. Wegesin was 0-2 in the tournament.

Eli Cassady finished fifth in the 174 freshman-sophomore division. He responded after a first round loss with three consecutive wins, two coming with bonus points. After a tech fall he earned a fall in 3:24 before winning 12-7 in the fifth place match. Dallas Downs finished the day 0-2.

At 184, Ethan Guevara took sixth in the freshman-sophomore division. The sophomore picked up a gritty 5-4 win before dropping his next bout. Guevara responded with a tech fall (4:51, 19-3) before a loss in the fifth place match. In the junior-senior division, Logan Cormell was the runner-up, starting the day with a 12-2 major decision and fired off a 14-3 major in his next bout. Caiden Hooks finished the day 0-2 at 197. Matthew Bachie was 0-2 at 285 as well.

On Nov. 11, the Cardinals will be in action at an OAC dual at Wilmington College. The match is scheduled for 7 p.m.
