TIFFIN, Ohio – The Otterbein University women's wrestling team put together a dominant showing Saturday at the Berg Holiday Duals inside Frann's Fieldhouse, earning a 4-1 record with convincing wins over Alfred State, Heidelberg, Point Park, and John Carroll.
Otterbein 55, Alfred State 5
The Cardinals opened the day with a victory over Alfred State, winning nine of 10 bouts. Freshman Vita Savage, sophomore Kellie Kennedy, and sophomore Hailey Hatfield each earned forfeit wins to give Otterbein an early advantage. From there, the Cardinals rolled off six straight falls, beginning with freshman Kira Cole at 131 pounds in just 47 seconds. Freshmen Abby Green (0:56), Jada Weiss (0:37), Audrey Garcia (1:32), Raegan Hites (0:13), and junior Marvet Hejazin (1:24) all secured pins to seal the win.
Otterbein 58, Heidelberg 0
Otterbein followed with a shutout of Heidelberg, winning all 10 bouts. Savage and Kennedy picked up quick falls at 103 and 110, while Hatfield, freshman Caroline Kearns, Cole, and Hejazin earned forfeits. Sophomore Alicia Coleman and Hites added falls at 138 and 180, and Weiss and Garcia posted technical fall victories to complete the sweep.
Otterbein 54, Point Park 5
The Cardinals continued their momentum against Point Park, collecting wins in nine bouts. Kennedy, Hatfield, sophomore Emily Caton, Green, Weiss, and Hites all earned falls, several coming in under two minutes. Cole and Hejazin again added forfeit wins, while Garcia competed at 160 pounds.
Otterbein 51, John Carroll 6
Otterbein next turned in a strong showing against John Carroll, winning nine of 10 matches. Savage, Caton, Alicia Coleman, Weiss, and Hites all recorded falls, while Hatfield, Cole, and Garcia contributed technical fall victories. Hejazin capped the dual with a forfeit win at 207 pounds.
Lindsey Wilson 43 Otterbein 14
Ending the day, Otterbein fell to Lindsey Wilson. The Cardinals recrived wins at 160 and 180 from Audrey Garcia and Raegan Hites. Hites pinned her opponent in 54 seconds.
Otterbein returns to action on Dec. 30, traveling to Evanston, Ill., to compete in the Midlands Championships.
