EVANSTON, Ill. – Competing in a nationally competitive field at the Midlands Women's Championships on Sunday, the Otterbein University women's wrestling team finished ninth out of 14 teams, totaling 42.5 points at Northwestern University.
North Central College claimed the team title with 169.5 points.
Otterbein was led by top-six finishes from Morgan Leonhardt (124) and Alicia Coleman (131), while multiple Cardinals picked up bonus-point victories across the lineup.
The Cardinals saw action at 110 pounds from Rylee Touhalisky and Kellie Kennedy. Touhalisky rebounded after an opening loss to earn a quick fall in 11 seconds in her second bout before dropping her next match. Kennedy also finished 1–2 on the day, recording a 10–0 technical fall in 2:35 for her lone victory.
At 117 pounds, Hailey Hatfield turned in a strong effort, finishing 2–2 overall. She opened the tournament with a fall at 4:44, added another pin in 1:39 in the consolation rounds, and competed in four total bouts.
Competing at 124 pounds, Morgan Leonhardt placed sixth for the Cardinals. After a bye to open the tournament, Leonhardt responded with back-to-back technical falls, winning 10–0 in 2:10 and 14–3 in 5:01, before falling in her placement bout.
At 131 pounds, Alicia Coleman put together an active day, placing fifth. After a bye, Coleman earned a 13–0 technical fall in 1:21, followed by a 10–0 technical fall in 2:48. She later added a fall in 1:46 before closing the tournament in the fifth-place match.
At 145 pounds, Jada Weiss finished 2–2 on the day. After a bye, Weiss secured a fall in 3:44, rebounded from a loss with another pin in 2:41, and competed in four total matches.
The Cardinals will be back in action on January 10 when they travel to Tiffin, Ohio.
