Cardinals win final seven bouts to defeat MSJ, 32-12

CINCINNATI, Ohio – Erasing an early deficit, the Otterbein University men's wrestling team rallied to win seven straight bouts and knock off Mt. St. Joseph, 32-12. Four of Otterbein's seven victories came with bonus points.

The Lions claimed the first three bouts before senior Zach Orseno flipped the momentum in favor of the Cardinals at 149. With a last-second takedown and the riding time point, Orseno secured Otterbein's first win, 14-13. At 157, sophomore Luke Dolan needed just 2:30 to pin Rylee Nealeigh, his seventh fall of the season. Carter Mottley followed with a pin at 165, this one coming in 1:28. Mottley's fall was his team-leading ninth of the year.

After 165, the Cardinals held a 15-12 lead, as the final four wrestlers continued to keep the momentum in favor of the visitors. Senior Logan Cormell picked up five points with an 18-0 tech fall over Brayden Kuhling (3:57). At 184, freshman Javon Lewis pinned McCaden Skeens in 2:01 to seal the win for Otterbein, giving the team a commanding 26-12 edge. Karson Nail grinded out an 8-3 win at 197, and Matthew Bachie followed with a tight 1-0 win in the 285 matchup.

Otterbein improves to 5-2 on the season in duals.

The Cardinals will head to John Carroll on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. dual against the Blue Streaks.
