Savage, Leonhardt victorious in Iowa

IOWA CITY, Ia. – Taking on some of the best competition in the nation, the Otterbein women's wrestling team competed against the University of Iowa and Lehigh University on Sunday afternoon. Both Iowa and Lehigh have multiple wrestlers in the NWCA National Top 20 Rankings. 

Iowa, the No. 1 ranked team in the nation in tournaments, knocked off the Cardinals, 43-1. Taking all 10 bouts, Otterbein received its point in the 124 bout when Morgan Leonhardt fell, 13-2. Leonhardt, a first-year, was recently ranked No. 16 in her weight class in The Open Mat rankings. 

The Cardinals dropped a 32-11 decision to Lehigh University. Starting things off at 103, Vita Savage earned five points for Otterbein with a pin over Hattie Mack in 5:53. Leonhardt also was victorious in the dual, pinning Alexa Cillotta in 2:15 for her ninth fall of the season. Jada Weiss earned Otterbein a point at 145, falling 14-2. 

The Cardinals return to action Jan. 23-24 at the Indiana Tech Warrior Open.
