NEW CONCORD, Ohio – On Saturday, the Otterbein University men's and women's indoor track and field teams delivered a dominant showing at Muskie Meet #2, as both squads captured first-place finishes in a field of 11 teams. The women totaled 181 points to win the meet, while the men followed with 213 points to complete the sweep.
On the track, the women turned in several top performances throughout the day. Senior Charlie Dolliver opened the meet with a win in the 60-meter hurdles, clocking a time of 9.54. In the 3,000 meters, Otterbein placed three athletes inside the top four, led by freshman Ollie Smith in second (10:47.48), freshman Kate Thormeier in third with a personal-best of (10:53.72), and junior Abby Kobs in fourth (11:13.80).
Freshman Gigi Leiter earned a first-place finish in the 800 meters, racing to a personal-best of 2:27.73. She was followed by freshman Magi Hallabrin in fourth (2:33.47), sophomore Kylie Brandt in fifth (2:36.10), and sophomore Laurie Baughman in seventh (2:38.45). Senior Rachel Bollo added a fourth-place finish in the 500 meters (1:23.77), while freshman Maria Morsch placed fourth in the 200 meters (29.02).
Distance success continued in the 5,000 meters as the Cardinals claimed four of the top six spots. Freshman Grace Blonde won the event in 19:29.08, followed closely by senior Rachel Ziel in second (19:32.08) and junior Kierstin Knell in third (19:37.46). Sophomore Kennedy Helton placed fifth with a personal-best time of 20:07.94, with sophomore Maggie Poor finishing sixth (20:16.18). The women capped the track portion with a victory in the 4x400-meter relay, as the quartet of Bollo, Leiter, Smith, and Dolliver crossed the line in 4:16.47.
In the field, sophomore Anastasia Smith highlighted the throws, placing second in the weight throw with a personal-best mark of 14.65 meters, moving her into second place on the program's all-time list, before winning the shot put at 12.77m. Junior Amelia Dailey finished sixth in the weight throw (13.81m), while sophomore Kendra Detillion placed sixth in the shot put (11.09m).
Dolliver added another win in the triple jump with a leap of 10.97m. Junior Madison Gray placed fifth (9.57m), sophomore Joey Durham recorded a personal-best mark of 9.24 meters to finish sixth, and sophomore Carlisha Bell followed in seventh (9.08m). Freshman Addison Westbrooks recorded a third-place finish in the high jump (1.50m).
The long jump saw Morsch place second with a mark of 4.78m, followed by junior Hannah Green in sixth (4.52m) and Westbrooks in seventh (4.51m). In the pole vault, freshman Brianne Miller won the event with a personal-best clearance of 3.39m. Freshman Mimi Wegener placed fourth (3.09m), while Durham cleared a personal-best 2.94 meters to finish sixth.
On the men's side, Otterbein controlled the distance events early. Junior Caleb Rafferty claimed first place in the 3,000 meters with a time of 8:59.82, while junior Corey Rafferty finished third (9:09.28) and sophomore Brannon Moser placed sixth (9:27.83). In the mile, junior Brady Pugh took first in 4:29.08, followed by junior Mitch Green in third (4:30.61), senior Gavin Kelly in fourth (4:34.76), and freshman Spencer Grace in eighth (4:49.63).
Junior Izaac Swope led the hurdle group with a win in the 60-meter hurdles, crossing in 8.31. Junior Cameron Smart placed third with a personal-best time of 8.63, freshman Jackson Steider followed in fourth with a personal-best 8.80, and freshman Logan Smith added a fifth-place result (8.95). Swope later placed fourth in the 60 meters with a personal-best time of 7.26.
In the middle distances, senior Gavin Kelly placed third in the 800 meters (2:02.73), followed by freshman Vince Catalano in fourth (2:05.08) and senior Alec Spangler in sixth (2:06.99). Junior Ian Chapman finished fourth in the 500 meters, recording a personal-best time of 1:10.78.
L. Smith placed third in the 200 meters with a personal-best time of 23.39, while sophomore Tucker See earned a victory in the 5,000 meters, winning the event in 15:58.30. The men's 4x400-meter relay rounded out the track events with a pair of strong finishes, as the "A" squad of Jack Van Fossen, Quintin Conrad, Marquez Whitehead, and L. Smith won in 3:33.69. Otterbein's "C" team followed closely in second at 3:33.75, featuring Catalano, Peyton Smith, Smart, and Grant Hartley.
In the field, junior Richmond Honkpo delivered a standout day, winning both the long jump (6.92m) and triple jump (13.08m). Sophomore Jaret Harting placed second in the long jump (6.82m) and fifth in the triple jump (11.46m), while junior Malvin Long finished third in the triple jump (12.30m). Joe Hill captured first place in the pole vault with a clearance of 4.55m, and senior Brady Williams placed sixth (4.10m). Junior Gabe Scialdone added a third-place finish in the high jump (1.88m). In the shot put, freshman Lisbon James recorded a personal-best mark of 13.34 meters to finish sixth, followed by sophomore Noah Gaydos in eighth (13.14m).
The Cardinals will return to action on January 30, traveling to Ohio Northern University to compete in the Joe Banks Invitational.
