Cardinals continue indoor season at Ohio Northern

ADA, Ohio – Back in action at the Joe Banks invitational, the Otterbein University indoor track and field teams turned in top-three finishes on Friday night. The men's squad scored 99 points to finish third, while the women tied for second with Saint Francis (Ind.) with 80 points.

Jaret Harting placed second in the long jump with a 6.98m mark and Wyatt Slack followed, placing third with a leap of 6.57m. Addy Westbrooks finished fourth for Otterbein in the high jump (1.43m) with Sienna Westbrooks taking sixth (1.38m). Junior Gabe Scialdone took fifth overall in the men's high jump (1.86m). Mimi Wegener cleared 3.08m to finish sixth for Otterbein in the women's pole vault. 

Senior Charlie Dolliver was second in the long jump with a personal best leap of 5.18m, shattering her previous mark of 4.89m. Maria Morsch (4.73m) and Addy Westbrooks (4.70m, PR) also scored for the Cardinals, finishing eighth and ninth. Later in the day, Dolliver finished second in the 60m hurdles, also recording a new PR with a time of 9.37.

With a new PR time of 8:54.60, Caleb Rafferty was second overall, top collegiate runner in the 3000m to give Otterbein 10 points. Two spots back, Brady Pugh ran a personal best time of 8:55.87. In sixth overall was Corey Rafferty (9:04.56).

The women's 4x200m relay squad of A. Westbrooks, Gigi Leiter, Allie Mongold and S. Westbrooks ran a 1:53.08 to win the event. On the men's side, Izaac Swope, Jack Van Fossen, Logan Smith and Quintin Conrad also finished in first, clocking a 1:34.79. Van Fossen later placed eighth in the 60m with a time of 7.25 and fourth in the 200m (23.48).

Freshman Kate Thormeier's time of 5:21.48 earned her second in the mile, with Abby Kobs taking fifth (5:35.59). Thormeier recorded a new PR by 14 seconds in the race. Grace Blonde was the third Cardinal to score in the event, running a 19-second PR of 5:41.19 to place seventh. On the men's side, Payne Ratliff claimed third with a time of 4:26.94. Sophomore Henry Barnes ran a massive PR of 4:33.18, finishing fifth. 

Otterbein went 1-2-3 in the men's 60m hurdles, paced by Izaac Swope's 8.40. In second was Cam Smart (8.59, PR) and Jackson Steider (8.65) placed third. In the 400m, Mallory Bostick won with a time of 1:04.59 as Mongold ran a PR of 1:06.20 to finish fourth. Marquez Whitehead clocked a 51.77 to earn fourth on the men's side. Alec Spangler represented the Cardinals in the 500m run, finishing eighth in the event (1:12.24).

In the 800m, Magi Hallabrin narrowly finished second with a personal best race time of 2:32.52. Following in the 1000m, Leiter (3:22.64, PR) and Laurie Baughman (3:22.83, PR) placed seventh and eighth. Senior Gavin Kelly ran a time of 2:40.95 to finish sixth overall. The men's 4x400m relay team of Spangler, Julius Jones, Ares Pasion and Kelly ended the night with a fourth place finish (3:42.81).

The Cardinals return to action next Saturday, Feb. 7 to compete in the Jud Logan Light Giver Open, hosted by Ashland.
