Men's tennis performs well at ITA Regional

CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. – Over the weekend, the Otterbein University men's tennis team wrapped up its fall competition. Three Cardinals competed at the ITA Regional Tournament, hosted by Wabash College, while the rest of the squad concluded its fall slate at the Big Red Invitational.

In the opening round of doubles play at ITAs, Sanjan Shanker and Tyler Thomas dropped a hard-fought battle, falling 8-6 to a Kenyon College duo. The team made quick work of their opponents from Earlham in the consolation bracket, dominating to an 8-0 victory. They went on to extend their stay in the consolation round of 16, knocking off Greenville's team by an 8-4 score. 

The duo continued their success, dominating their next opponent by an 8-1 win. In the consolation semifinals, Shanker and Thomas won in a gritty 8-6 fashion over the North Central duo to advance to the consolation finals match. 

Ryan Ricciardi competed in men's open singles, falling to WashU's Wu, 6-0, 6-3. The freshman went on to win his match in the consolation bracket, before advancing all the way to the consolation semifinals. The freshman put up a tremendous fight, but dropped in a three-set match, 6-4, 4-6, 2-10. 

The team will prepare in the offseason for the spring season, which is set to begin in February 2027. | Big Red Invitational Recap
