ASHLAND, Ohio – The Otterbein University track and field teams competed at the two-day Ashland Jud Logan Light Giver Open, facing a strong field that included Division I, II, III, and club programs.
On the men's side, the Cardinals were led by a first-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay as freshman Julius Jones, junior Ian Chapman, senior Alec Spangler, and freshman Vince Catalano combined for a time of 3:31.24.
Otterbein added several strong finishes on the track, including a third-place effort from freshman Quintin Conrad in the 400-meter dash (49.99), followed closely by sophomore Jack Van Fossen in fourth (50.34) and sophomore Grant Hartley in eighth (51.12). In the 4x100 relay, junior Izaac Swope, sophomore Jaret Harting, Van Fossen, and junior Richmond Honkpo placed third in 42.73.
In the 800-meter run, Jones led the group with a sixth-place finish (1:57.88), followed by senior Gavin Kelly (10th, 1:58.54), junior Brady Pugh (11th, 1:58.98), and senior Jonny Powers (12th, 1:59.01). Freshman Brandon Curry Jr. (12th, 22.89) and Swope (14th, 23.13) also competed in the 200-meter dash, while Swope placed sixth in the 110-meter hurdles finals after running 14.50.
In the field events, sophomore Joab Bockstoce took third in the high jump (1.93m). Harting added a third-place finish in the long jump (6.69m), with Honkpo placing fourth (6.59m). Junior Gabe Scialdone also recorded a fourth-place mark in the triple jump (12.16m), and freshman Kyren Sheppard placed 13th in the discus (43.18m).
On the women's side, freshman Addy Westbrooks led the way with a first-place finish in the high jump, clearing 1.58 meters.
Senior Charlie Dolliver delivered a standout performance in the hurdles, running a personal-best 14.52 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles prelims to move into third on Otterbein's all-time list before placing fifth in the finals (14.76). Dolliver also placed third in the triple jump with a mark of 11.36 meters.
The 4x100-meter relay team of Dolliver, A. Westbrooks, freshman Gigi Leiter, and freshman Sienna Westbrooks placed fifth with a time of 50.84.
In distance events, junior Ava Stratmann led the Cardinals in the 800-meter run with a sixth-place finish (2:23.97), followed by freshman Ollie Smith in 10th (2:27.84). Sophomore Brenna Lay added a 13th-place finish in the 1500 meters (5:00.76), while sophomore Mallory Bostick placed 13th in the 400-meter dash (1:03.00).
In the throwing events, junior Amelia Dailey recorded a mark of 41.60 meters in the hammer throw to place 20th.
Otterbein will return to action at the OAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by Muskingum on April 30-May 1.
