WILMINGTON, OHIO--Host Wilmington (15-5, 10-3 OAC) defeated Otterbein (5-15, 3-10 OAC) 84-72 in a league contest Wednesday night.
In a back and forth first half, the score was locked at 21-21 with 8:55 left. The score remained tight throughout the half as Wilmington led 36-35 with a little over three minutes left and eventually took a 45-42 lead heading into halftime.
Senior guard Brian Pollock paced the Cardinals in the first half, notching four three-pointers and 18 points in the first 20 minutes of play. Pollock finished with a game-high 25 points.
The game remained close during the beginning of the second half, as Wilmington held a 58-56 lead with 14:38 left. However, Wilmington used a second-half surge to overpower the Cardinals, who shot 52.8 percent from the field. By the 10:51 mark, the Quakers were up 68-57.
An Otterbein seven-point streak brought the margin to within four points, but Wilmington once again pulled away, going up 78-66 with 4:58 left, and didn’t look back.
Wilmington currently sits atop the league in a first-place tie with John Carroll.
