M's Hoops Cruises to Victory at Mount Union

ALLIANCE, OHIO – The Otterbein University men’s basketball team (8-9, 4-6 OAC) had five players score in double figures and earned an 82-61 road victory over The University of Mount Union (8-9, 6-4 OAC) Saturday afternoon.

The Cards, playing without second-leading scorer Brice Rausch, scored seven of the game’s first eight points and widened its margin to 20-9 after a three-pointer from freshman C.J. Julian at the 10:38 mark.

Otterbein kept its food on the gas pedal, opening a 30-13 lead with 5:41 showing on the first half clock after a layup from junior Chris Davis.

Mount was able to pull within eight before Otterbein regrouped and took a 37-24 lead by halftime.
Otterbein remained in control during the early stages of the second half, but the Raiders stayed within striking distance, trailing 53-41 with just under 11 minutes to go.

The Cards then broke the game open with a 13-2 run spanning the next three and a half minutes to take a 65-43 edge. Otterbein would lead by as many as 25 before securing the 82-61 win.

Julian, who missed the team’s previous game Wednesday, led five Cardinals in double figures with 19 points, including a 5-of-7 effort from beyond the arc. He also grabbed six rebounds and had three assists.

Freshman Max Van Meter scored 18, Davis posted 17 points and 11 rebounds, while senior Nathan Edick and sophomore Zach Bakenhaster contributed 12 and ten points, respectively.

Jimmy Wood led the Raiders with 16 points while Dave Pellerite had 12.

The Cards shot .520 from the field compared to a .410 average for Mount Union. Otterbein held a 41-27 rebounding edge, and made 9-of-20 from three-point range while Mount managed to knock down just 6-of-19.

Otterbein stays on the road, traveling to take on Ohio Northern University Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. The Polar Bears earned an 80-73 victory in Westerville earlier this season.
