LIMA, OHIO—The Otterbein University men’s cross country team placed ninth at the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) cross country championships hosted by Ohio Northern University Saturday at the Lost Creek Golf Course in Lima.

Host Ohio Northern won the meet with 43 points and was followed by the University of Mount Union (75) and John Carroll University (89) in the 10-team field, which included 156 runners. Otterbein scored 249.

“We were ranked ninth in the league going into the meet and we wanted to finish in the top six,” said Otterbein head coach Scott Alpeter. “We’re a bit disappointed to finish ninth, but we had some good races out of Tim Williard, Joey Montoya and Andrew Mantell.”

Williard, a senior, turned in Otterbein’s best finish, running the 8000-meter course in 27:20 to finish 40th. Montoya, a freshman, took the 52nd spot (27:34) while Mantell, a sophomore, finished 63rd (27:53).

Senior Mark Bayman, finishing 70th (28:02), and Jeremy Farver, taking 93rd (28:37), rounded out the Otterbein scoring five.

Caleb Muller, a junior from Marietta College, won the individual title in 25:28.

Otterbein returns to action Nov. 12 at the NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional hosted by Oberlin College.
