WILMINGTON, OHIO - The Otterbein University baseball team split its fourth consecutive league doubleheader Thursday afternoon, this time at Wilmington College to move to 12-12 on the season and 4-4 in Ohio Athletic Conference play.
The Cards took game one 2-1, but Wilmington (8-13, 3-5 OAC) played its way to a 7-1 victory in the second contest.
Game one featured a pitcher's duel throughout, with Otterbein finally taking a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly from senior Elliott Greenhill.
The Quakers tied the game in the fifth, but Cardinal shortstop Matt Workman registered the game-winning RBI in the top half of the seventh inning, allowing Otterbein to escape with the 2-1 victory.
Wilmington hopped out to an early 4-0 lead in game two despite eight strikeouts through four innings from Cardinal lefty Dominic Porretta. The hosts would tally another pair of runs in the sixth, and Otterbein’s only scoring would come in the ninth on a Wes Meadows RBI single.
Porretta, allowing four earned runs in six innings, fell to 1-3 on the season with the loss despite striking out ten batters.
Jared Ramsey took the win for Wilmington, going a solid 8.2 innings.
Otterbein stays on the road to finish the week, traveling to The University of Mount Union Saturday afternoon for a conference doubleheader. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
