Cards Earn 3rd Seed for OAC Tourney

WESTERVILLE, OHIO—The Otterbein University men’s tennis team, finishing Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play at 7-2, earned the third seed in the OAC Tournament and will host six-seeded Heidelberg University, 3:30 p.m., Tuesday in the quarterfinals.

The Cardinals, 11-10 overall, closed out the regular season with a two-match sweep on the road last week, surprising Baldwin-Wallace College, 5-4, and shutting out Marietta College, 9-0.

Senior Ryan Catanese won all four of his matches last week, including a 7-5, 4-6, 7-5 win at fifth singles to decide the 5-4 victory at Baldwin-Wallace.

Senior Phillip Caprasse finished conference play with an 8-1 record at third singles to lead the Cardinals this season. Catanese, senior Ryan Roberts and freshman Ryan Shutt each played to a 7-2 OAC mark in singles play.

Heidelberg, 8-10 overall, concluded the regular season with a 4-5 conference record. In this season’s meeting, Otterbein defeated the Berg, 8-1, at home April 21.

The winner of this quarterfinal match advances to the semifinals scheduled for Friday, 1 p.m., at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason, and will meet the winner of the quarterfinal matchup between seventh-seeded Capital University and second-seeded John Carroll University. The final is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at Lindner.
