Cards Suffer 73-64 Setback at Wilmington

WILMINGTON, OHIO – Senior guard Brice Rausch scored a game-high 22 points, but the Wilmington College Quakers defeated the Otterbein University Cardinals 73-64, Saturday afternoon at the Fred Raizk Arena.

The Cardinals drop their fifth-consecutive game and fall to 5-10 overall, 2-6 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. Meanwhile, the Quakers improve to 6-3 in the conference, 7-7 overall.

The contest saw early ties of 10-10 and 14-14 before the Cardinals opened a 29-18 lead on a four-point play from Rausch.

The host Quakers began to battle back, closing out the final five minutes of the half on a 12-0 run to take a 32-29 lead into the break.

Rausch turned in an impressive first stanza, scoring 16 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the field.

Otterbein kept the game close and only trailed 44-42 after freshman Andy Yazrombek split a pair of free throws with 13:16 remaining in regulation.

Wilmington regained a double-digit lead after freshman guard Dwight Johnson capped off a 12-3 Quaker run with a jump shot in the paint to make the score 56-45 with 8:22 left in the game.

Otterbein got as close as three when junior guard Tommy Waterwash nailed a jumper to make the score 63-60 with 3:37 left in the game. However the Cardinals would not close the gap any further, as the Quakers capped off the game on a 10-4 run to notch the victory.

Rausch finished the game with 22 points on 8-of-17 shooting, including 4-of-6 from three-point range. Senior forward Chris Davis also chipped in 17 points and nine rebounds in the loss. Rausch now sits at 975 points for his career while Davis has 973.

Wilmington was led by sophomore forward Malcolm Heard II, who finished the afternoon with 18 points and 13 rebounds.

Otterbein returns to action this Wednesday when the team travels to Berea to take on Baldwin-Wallace. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
