WESTERVILLE, OHIO – The Otterbein University men’s tennis team defeated the University of Mount Union 6-3 Saturday afternoon in Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play.

The Cardinals move to 4-9 overall, 2-1 in the OAC. Meanwhile, the Purple Raiders fall to 8-5, 1-1 in the OAC.

"The players knew this was a crucial match for our season," men's head tennis coach Mark Anderson said. "They stepped up and played extremely well."

Mount Union claimed first doubles, but the Cardinals were able to gain wins in second and third doubles to take a 2-1 lead into singles competition.

The team of senior Steven Albert and freshman Kendall Coffman won second doubles 8-3, while the sophomore duo of Ryan Shutt and Tyler Gibbons took the win in third doubles, 8-0.

Otterbein went on to claim four of the six singles matchups to earn the victory.

Senior Ryan Roberts took home first singles (7-6, 7-6) and Shutt won third singles (6-2, 6-4).

"Ryan Roberts had a big win at first singles," added Anderson. "He won each tie-break 8-6, illustrating just how competitive the match was."
