WILMINGTON, OHIO – Otterbein University baseball suffered a doubleheader sweep at Wilmington College Wednesday afternoon, falling 3-1 and 2-1 in Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) action.

The losses drop Otterbein to 16-12 overall and 3-5 in the OAC, while the wins move the Quakers to 6-15 on the season, 3-5 against league schools.

Otterbein finishes out the week at home, hosting a doubleheader with conference foe John Carroll University Saturday afternoon as part of Alumni Day. First pitch from Fishbaugh Field is scheduled for 1 p.m.

The difference making inning came in the third frame of game one, when the Quakers took advantage of a few Cardinal fielding errors en route to posting three runs.

Otterbein cut the deficit to 3-1 in the top of the sixth, as sophomore Thomas Linder continued his hot streak at the plate with an RBI-single to right field.

The Cards threatened in their final at-bat by putting runners on first and second base, but an ensuing fly out would end the game.

Senior right-hander Dustin Reuter allowed three runs and four hits while striking out five batters, but fell to 6-3 on the mound this season.

Game two remained scoreless through three innings of play before the Quakers posted two runs in the bottom of the fourth.

Wilmington’s Jake Vinkovich kept Otterbein off the scoreboard for eight full innings of work as the hosts clung to the 2-0m lead entering the final frame.

Refusing to go quietly, the Cardinals loaded the bases with two outs and soon after cut the margin to 2-1 when pinch-hitter Bobby Hildebrand was hit by a pitch. Unfortunately, the final rally would come up short as freshman AJ Finlay grounded out to shortstop to end the game.

Sophomore Greg Moomaw allowed just two runs on four hits over his six innings of work, while junior Dominic Porretta gave two scoreless innings of relief work.

Following Saturday’s matchup with JCU, the Cardinals will host a conference twinbill with rival Marietta College Tuesday, April 17 at 1 p.m.
