Austin Curbow and junior
Kristen Bennett of the Otterbein University track and field team will compete at the NCAA Division III National Championships in Claremont, Calif. Thursday May 24 thru Saturday May 26.
Curbow is headed to the outdoor national championships to compete in the 110-meter hurdles for the second time in his career. This marks the second time this year that he has qualified for a national championship; he also qualified for the 60-meter hurdles at the indoor national championships in March.
Curbow snuck into the championship field with a time of 14.69 at the North Central College Gregory Final Qualifier meet. He entered the day ranked 21st in the 110-meter hurdles with his time of 14.72. With the top 20 athletes from NCAA D-III in each event invited to nationals, Curbow managed to improve his time to secure the 20th best time in the country.
Bennett will compete in two different events in Claremont, the triple jump and the long jump. She qualified for the triple jump with her mark of 38”7’ (11.76 meters) and the long jump with a distance of 19-8 1/4 (6.0 meters). Both of her qualifying jumps took place at the Ohio Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Curbow will begin his quest for a national championship with the prelims of the Men’s 110 Hurdles on Friday, May 25, at 5:25 p.m. (PT). If he qualifies, he will compete in the finals the following day at 3:25 p.m. (PT).
Meanwhile, Bennett will begin her championship tour with the long jump at 3 p.m. (PT) but will wait until Saturday, May 26, to compete in the triple jump. Finals for the triple jump are scheduled for 3 p.m. (PT).
The 2012 Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships begin Thursday, May 24, at 2 p.m. (PT) and are hosted by Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at Burns Stadium in Claremont, Calif.
