BEXLEY, Ohio – Otterbein University dropped its fourth-straight outing Saturday afternoon, finishing on the wrong end of a 100-62 contest at crosstown rival Capital University.

The Cardinals fall to 5-8 on the season and 2-4 in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) with the loss, while the win moves the first-place Crusaders to 9-4 overall and a perfect 6-0 in league play.

Otterbein held an early 11-7 lead thanks to three buckets from junior Max Van Meter, but the Crusaders settled in and tied the game, 17-17, after a fastbreak layup with 11:58 remaining in the half.

The Cardinals then went cold from the field, allowing Capital to sprint ahead with a 16-3 run and assume a 33-20 advantage with 6:18 to play before the break.

A layup from Van Meter halted the Capital spurt, but the Crusaders remained hot from behind the arc en route to a 47-26 halftime advantage. Capital buried 9 of 16 three-pointers in the opening period while Otterbein made just 1 of 10.

Capital widened the margin to 66-37 at the 13:31 point of the second half and never looked back in handing Otterbein the loss.

Junior C.J. Julian led the Cardinals with a team-high 16 points on the afternoon, with Van Meter turning in a 14-point, six-rebound effort.

Tim Congrove dropped a game-high 25 points on 9 of 13 shooting for Capital, which made 15 three-pointers and shot .587 compared to Otterbein’s .383.

Otterbein hosts a pair of games next week in the Rike Center, playing Wilmington College Wednesday evening before taking on Heidelberg University on Saturday. Both contests are set for 7:30 p.m.
