Baseball Drops Two at John Carroll

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio – The Cardinal baseball team suffered a tough doubleheader sweep at the hands of John Carroll University Saturday afternoon, falling by scores of 1-0 and 11-3.

Otterbein University, now 19-9 overall and 6-4 in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC), will try to regroup before another key OAC showdown Tuesday at defending national champion Marietta College.

Senior David Cydrus was solid on the mound for Otterbein, allowing just one run and no walks over his six innings of work. The Cardinals, however, mustered just two hits as a Mitchell Herringshaw RBI double in the third inning ultimately proved to be the difference.

Patrick O’Briend was fantastic on the mound for the Blue Streaks, surrendering just two hits in seven innings.

Otterbein grabbed an early 1-0 lead in game two after Mike Mackessy scored an unearned run, but JCU battled back to take an 8-2 lead after seven innings.

The Cards managed one run in the eighth, but left the bases loaded and were unable to later generate anything in the ninth.

Otterbein senior Wes Meadows hit 3 for 4 in the second game while Nich Pitzer chipped in with a 2 for 5 effort at the dish. Adam Collier suffered only his second loss of the season on the mound in falling to 6-2.

Starting time for the first game of Otterbein’s doubleheader at Marietta is scheduled for 4 p.m.
