Men's Tennis Closes Week with Two Wins

MEDINA, Ohio – The Otterbein University men’s tennis team defeated John Carroll University 7-2 Saturday afternoon.

The Cardinals improve to 10-5 overall, 3-2 in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC), while the loss drops the Blue Streaks to 1-3 in league play, 2-10 overall.

Otterbein started the week with a convincing 9-0 win over Wilmington College, before they handled John Carroll.

The Cardinals took two of the doubles matchups to head into singles play leading 2-1. Otterbein claimed five of the six matchups to earn the conference win.

Junior Ryan Shutt and a trio of freshman (Will Willson, David Seckel, and Zach McDivitt) all earned multiple wins for the Cardinals.

Willson and Seckel earned an 8-4 win at first doubles before each went on to win their singles matchups. Willson scored a three-set win (3-6, 6-3, 6-4) over previously unbeaten Ryan Mullaney at first singles, while Seckel won 6-2, 6-1 at third singles.

Shutt and McDivitt eased their way to an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles, before both picked up straight-set wins in singles play.

Junior Tyler Gibbons also picked up a win for the Tan and Cardinal, cleaning up No. 6 singles with a 6-0, 6-0 win.

Otterbein is back in action Tuesday, April 16, when they travel to Marietta College for a 3:30 p.m. matchup.
