Cardinals Fall to Wittenberg, 17-10

Box Score

WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Cardinals tallied double-digit runs, but it was not enough, as they were defeated 17-10 by Wittenberg University Thursday afternoon at Fishbaugh Field.

Otterbein University is now in the midst of a five-game skid and falls to 19-12 overall. Meanwhile, the win improves the Tigers to 15-10 on the year.

Freshman pitcher Jordon Mally (0-1) was tagged for six runs (three earned) in the first two innings and put Otterbein in an early hole.

The Cardinals responded with four runs in the bottom half of the second to cut into the deficit, courtesy of three-straight RBI singles, to pull the game to 6-4.

However, Otterbein could not keep up with Wittenberg’s run production. The Tigers scored at least one run in the first eight innings of the ballgame.

Freshmen Tyler Kent and Nich Pitzer led the Cardinals at the dish, with each notching three base knocks apiece. Kent added a pair of RBI to his final line as well.

Each team was successful on 6-of-6 stolen base attempts, with senior Wes Meadows swiping a pair of bases for Otterbein.

The Cardinals will resume their Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) schedule this Saturday, April 20, when they host Muskingum University for a pair of games. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
