Cardinals Advance to OAC Semifinals

WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Otterbein University men’s tennis team knocked off Marietta College 5-0 in the opening round of the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Tournament Tuesday afternoon at the Richard A. Sanders Tennis Center.

The Cardinals (15-6) move on to the conference semifinals where they will face crosstown rival Capital University. Capital picked up a 5-0 win over Heidelberg Tuesday afternoon to advance. Meanwhile, the Pioneers finish their season 8-9 overall.

The 2013 OAC Men’s Tennis Tournament semifinals and finals will be played at the Lindner Tennis Center in Mason, Ohio on Friday, May 3. Otterbein will attempt to avenge a tough 5-4 loss from this past Saturday.

Otterbein took a commanding 3-0 lead after all three Cardinal doubles pairs won.

Needing only five wins to secure the match, Otterbein’s No. 1 doubles pairing of freshmen Will Willson and David Seckel quickly dispatched of each of their opponents to give the Cardinals the win. Seckel claimed a 6-1, 6-1 decision at No. 3 singles, while Willson ended the match with a 6-0, 6-1 win in the No. 1 hole.

Otterbein will return to action this Friday, May 3, when they take on Capital for a berth in the OAC Championship. The match time is TBA.
