ADA, Ohio – The Cardinal baseball team walked away from Ohio Northern University  with a doubleheader split Saturday afternoon, falling 7-3 in the first affair before rebounding for a 10-5 win in game two.

Otterbein University now sits at 17-6 on the season and 4-2 in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC), while the Polar Bears move to 10-12 on the season, 2-4 against the league.

Game one saw a 2-2 tie after four innings, but ONU took a five-run lead after plating three in the fifth and another two in the sixth.

Otterbein ignited a comeback attempt in the ninth, getting two runs across before the rally stalled with the bases loaded.
Sean Kettering went 1 for 4 with a pair of RBI in the game, while leadoff hitter Tyler Kent recorded two of the Cards’ four runs.

Otterbein trailed, 4-2, after four innings in the second outing, but strung together two runs in the sixth and another two in the seventh to leap ahead.

Senior Wes Meadows, who saw his school record 26-game hitting streak come to a close on Wednesday at Ohio Wesleyan, launched a solo homerun in the sixth and followed it up with a two-run blast over the left-field fence in the seventh.

The Polar Bears got to within 6-5, but Otterbein secured the win with four more runs in the ninth, two coming from a Sean Kettering double to left-center field.

Four Cardinals tallied multi-hit outings in game two, led by a 3 for 4 effort from Meadows. He tallied three RBI and scored four runs himself.

Freshman Adam Collier improved to 6-1 on the mound while Dominic Porretta picked up his fourth save of the season.

Otterbein, having played its first 23 games away from home this season, is scheduled to host four games next week at Fishbaugh Field beginning with Rio Grande University Tuesday at 4 p.m.
