Cardinals Topple OU-Lancaster, 13-3

WESTERVILLE, Ohio – Otterbein University baseball recorded its 23rd win of the season Wednesday afternoon, turning back Ohio University-Lancaster 13-3 at Fishbaugh Field.

The Cardinals are scheduled to finish the regular season Saturday with a 1 p.m. conference doubleheader against Baldwin Wallace University. Seniors Jon Cheyney, David Cydrus, Matt Frey, Dominic Porretta, Scott Staarmann, and Wes Meadows will be recognized prior to first pitch as part of Senior Day.

The game saw a 2-2 tie entering the third frame, but Otterbein found its offensive groove with eight runs over the next two innings en route to a convincing win.

Meadows crossed the plate twice on the day, giving him 142 career runs scored and passing Ben Titus for the school’s all-time record. He also went 2 for 5 at the dish, bringing him to 202 career hits and just seven shy of Tory Allen’s all-time mark of 209.

Cardinal shortstop Sean Kettering went an impressive 4 for 5 on the day, driving in four runs and scoring three times himself. Thomas Linder and Nich Pitzer each hit 3 for 5, combining for three RBI and three runs scored.

Otterbein used six different pitchers throughout the game, with senior Jon Cheyney being credited with the win.

The Cardinals will be looking to secure a spot in the four-team Ohio Athletic Conference Tournamrnt on Saturday against BW. Otterbein swept the Yellow Jackets last season in Berea by scores of 4-1 and 4-2.
