OBERLIN, Ohio—The Otterbein University men's tennis team dropped a 7-2 decision Saturday at Oberlin College.
Sophomore Will Willson and senior Ryan Shutt, both first team All-Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) selections in 2013, tallied wins at first and second singles, respectively.
"The men came up against a very strong opponent at Oberlin," said head coach Mark Anderson. "Will Willson and Ryan Shutt played exceptionally well in decisively winning their matches."
Willson ran his record in match play this season to 4-0, winning first singles, 6-2, 6-2. Shutt, 3-1 in 2014, cruised at second singles, winning 6-0, 6-2.
Willson and his doubles partner, sophomore David Seckel, suffered their first loss in match play this young season, falling 8-4 at first doubles. Seckel earned second team All-OAC honors as a freshman last season.
"While our guys played solidly and battled hard in the rest of the matches, they just weren't able to pull out the win," Anderson said. "The match showed us we have a lot to work on before OAC league play begins."
The Cardinals are scheduled to play again this Sunday, traveling to Ohio Wesleyan University for a nonconference match.
