BEREA, Ohio – The Otterbein University men's tennis team earned a narrow 4-3 victory over Baldwin Wallace on Saturday afternoon in Ohio Athletic Conference action at the Pop Collins Tennis Courts.
The Cardinals dropped the doubles point, as Baldwin Wallace secured wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots. Otterbein's lone victory came from the top pairing of Nikita Kitaev and Jake Chilcote, who earned a 6-4 decision.
Otterbein responded in singles play, winning four of six matches to secure the comeback win.
Sanjan Shanker led the way at No. 1 with a 6-4, 6-2 victory, while Chilcote added another point at No. 3 with a matching 6-4, 6-2 result. Neil Reddy battled through a tight opening set before pulling away for a win at No. 5.
The deciding point came at No. 2 singles, where Max Fickas rallied after dropping the first set to win in three, closing out a tiebreak (7-3) in the final set to clinch the match for the Cardinals.
Baldwin Wallace picked up singles wins at the No. 4 and No. 6 positions, but Otterbein's depth proved to be the difference in the 4-3 result.
